NORTH AMERICAN ICE FISHING CIRCUIT LUDINGTON OPEN QUALIFIER January 14 - 16, 2010
Index: Return On Investment to the Community
The North American Ice Fishing Circuit Tournament Series is a corporation established by fishermen, for fishermen. The fundamental goal of NAIFC Tournament Series is to advance the sport of ice fishing by providing the highest level of competitive ice fishing in North America. Achievement of that goal will be through a combination of competition, education, and product promotion. NAIFC Tournaments are truly hard-water’s equivalent to big time bass and walleye tournaments held during the open-water months. The NAIFC Tournament Series has fast become the go-to resource/theme for all media’s storylines. Top “ice” competitors have honed skills and developed techniques that are trickling down to the “weekend” ice anglers through as many as 200 media source press reports (print and electronic) that follow each NAIFC Tournament. Despite the growing sophistication of NAIFC competitors, these events remain approachable for newcomers. There is an unmistakable common-folk quality to the sport of ice fishing that seems to attract hard-working people who naturally like to help others.
Friday Evening Seminar with NAIFC Pro Staff This NAIFC Pro Staff Seminar program is geared toward educating new amateur fishers to the world of tournaments and the best products in the industry. The seminar starts at 5pm Friday night with an Ice Fishing Guide and Pro. After the seminar the teams will be paired with NAIFC Pro Staff in smaller groups. These group tutorials will include specific techniques on how to catch fish on the lake of the tournament. The teams will be invited to pre-fish the next morning on the Tournament Lake. The Pro Staff will fish with the amateur teams demonstrating techniques needed to compete at the tournament level. The fishers will feel less pressure to compete against the pros and will be on the fast track to becoming pros themselves, eventually becoming teachers to their friends and fishers in the local community. NAIFC Pro Staff along with certified instructor Jim Kusuda will promote fishing education through demonstration in classroom tutorials. NAIFC will secure certified instructor at the association’s cost. The Ice Camp will be advertised by the sponsoring community in the Schools and surrounding community, and will take place in a school. The kids and parents will then be invited to fish the next morning. Each youth will be given sponsors products and promotional items. When available the kids will also enjoy a hot meal and drinks for a break from the action. Parents must accompany their kids during the event. This is an excellent opportunity to introduce a new way for kids to enjoy what the outdoors has to offer. Fishing outdoors and introduction to the newest technology will give the parent and child a first look at ice fishing. Some of the teams do not wish to take the fish caught on tournament day home with them. Those teams are more than willing to donate their fish to a local food bank or other local organization. Permission to possess this quantity of fish is cleared through the State DNR. Feeding the less fortunate or providing a local organization with the main meal for a fundraiser is a great opportunity to further invest in the sponsoring community. To use hotel industry jargon, the NAIFC Tournament Series will put heads in beds. Information garnered from the Chambers of Commerce where the NAIFC has previously held tournaments demonstrates positive economic impact to the community and surrounding area during the NAIFC Tournament Series events. The impact of 150 teams (300 fishers) spending time pre-fishing on the open water scouting for the event, pre-fishing during the week before and during the tournament, with money primarily spent on hotel rooms, gas, food, beverages, bait, tackle, entertainment, vehicle-trailer-ATV-snowmobile and auger repair has been found to impact the community in the range of $75,000-$125,000. The Kid’s Ice Camp provides FREE education and activities to the Host Community’s kids. Sponsorship Opportunities:
